The Myth of Baby Teeth
Dr.Natalia Slusky, give the truth about some wrong information with how baby
feel during teething :
- “Baby” teeth do not hurt. Unfortunately, they
do, as much as permanent teeth, and suffering for a child could be tremendous.
- If a decayed “baby” tooth doesn’t hurt at this
point, we can wait until it falls out. In case, when a decayed “baby”
tooth does not hurt, waiting would be a big mistake for a variety of reasons.
Fist, it may start hurting at any time. Second, a decay in “baby”
teeth develops and gets complicated very quickly. Infected roots of primary
teeth can severely damage permanent teeth developing just underneath of primary
teeth. Third, decayed teeth, no matter primary or permanent, are a serious
source of infection, jeopardizing general health. In addition, a smile showing
badly decayed teeth is not pretty, and will not give too much confidence to
your child.
- If a “baby” tooth gives a problem, it can be removed
at any time, because it will be replaced by a permanent tooth. The
“baby” teeth provide guidance for the permanent teeth. Untimely
loss of primary teeth affects a child’s chewing ability and speech development.
It can provoke delayed or premature eruption of permanent teeth. Very often,
early removal of primary teeth is a cause of crooked permanent dentition.
Above all, removal of an infected “baby” tooth is a surgical procedure,
which can and should be prevented.
