TAKE CARE FOR BABY SKIN

TAKE CARE FOR BABY SKIN
Illustration
At birth and throughout the infancy, your baby's skin is very sensitive and it is for this reason that special consideration should be given to detergents for your infants clothing, bath soaps and shampoo's, body lotions, etc...

It is a general rule that manufacture's of "infant" detergents, soaps, shampoo's and other bathing /cleaning accessories have specifically designed their products for infants. However in real life, it is not unusual to see infants having a "sensitivity reaction" in the form of a body rash with products marketed as "safe and hypoallergenic for infants".

It is therefore a good idea to review what detergents, soaps, softeners( if any...), lotions, and shampoo your baby's doctor recommends. Using regular detergents, scented soaps and lotions may be irritating to your infants skin. The use of bleach for washing your infants "whites" is strongly discouraged!

Important Points to Remember

  1. Infants have very sensitive skin - do not use any adult bath, detergent or lotion product without consulting your infant's doctor.
  2. Babies do not need daily baths - It is important to keep your infant clean, however daily baths will rob the natural oils of your infant's skin leaving your baby with dry and cracked skin. In general, baths every2-3 days should be suffice.
  3. Sunscreens should not be used until your infant is at least 6-9 months old. It is recommended that you use an infant sunscreen that is hypoallergenic, PABA free and at least 25-30 SPF.
