THE IMPORTANT OF FOLIC ACID FOR PREGNANCY WOMAN
Folic Acid is a B vitamin which will help to prevent the brain and spinal cord
from defect when woman get early pregnancy. It is can be found natrally in liver,
nuts, spinach and other dark green leafy vegetables. Folic Acid is related to
synthetic form of the vitamin. Pregnancy woman which have enough of folid acid
at their bodies when early pregnancy or before pregnancy can decrease the risk
of neural tube defects (NTDs), baby brain defect (anencephaly) or spine (spina
bifida). This birth defect are called by neural tube defects (NTDs). NTDs will
happen when the spinal cord fails to close properly.
Some studies give result that woman who get 400 micrograms (0.4 milligrams)
of folid acid daily when conception and while early pregnancy will reduce the
risk for baby with serious neural tube defect up to 70%. Some research also
give the result about folic acid will also protect woman or men form stroke,
heart disease, breast cancer and colon cancer.
The defect of brain and spinal cord usually occur during the first 28 days
of pregnancy, this is usually before the woman even aware that she is already
pregnant. Because of that, it is very important for all woman who are childbearing
age to have enough folic acid, not just for woman who are planning to pregnant.
By the research, it is only 50% of pregnancies are planned, so for any woman
who have the risk of pregnant should make sure to get enoght folic acid. The
enough folic acid intake for prengnancy woman is very important 1 month before
conception and at least 3 months during first pregnancy to potentially reduce
the risk of having a fetus with a neural tube defect.

Folic acid is found in the some of the following foods:
- Asparagus
- Spinach
- Black beans
- Lentils
- Fortified breakfast cereals such as Total and Product 19
- Peanuts (only if you do not have a peanut allergy)
- Orange juice (from concentrate is best)
- Enriched breads and pasta
- Romaine lettuce
- Broccoli
